Fire and flamingos

Lake Bogoria National Reserve lies in the Great Rift Valley in Baringo County, a shallow soda lake framed by steep escarpment walls. Hot springs and geysers steam and bubble along its western shore.

When conditions are right, huge flocks of lesser flamingos feed in the shallows, turning the shoreline pink. Greater kudu and klipspringer live on the rocky slopes, and far fewer people visit than the better-known lakes further south.

A vibrant flock of flamingos stands elegantly in Baringo County, Kenya's serene waters.
